Ron Platt Courage Award Winners

This year TBRC is pleased to present the Ron Platt Courage Award to six outstanding individuals:

Candidates

Dr. Ami Bera was the Democratic candidate for Congress from the 3rd District.  During his campaign his integrity, spirit, thoughtfulness, and heart exemplified Democratic values.  He engaged with voters from all walks of life and all political persuasions to show them what a Congressmember who listens to them can do to improve lives on Main Street.

Chris Parker was the Democratic candidate for Board of Equalization from the 2nd District.  Having the largest geographical district of any non-statewide candidate, Chris tirelessly travelled from one end to the other educating voters on the importance of the Board of Equalization.  By leveraging the grassroots in the rural counties, Chris built a solid campaign.

Elected Officials

Jennifer Montgomery, with no political experience, defeated an incumbent Republican Supervisor in Placer County in 2008, campaigning across the largest geographic district in the county. She has been a model public servant, standing up for her constituents first and foremost. She has an outstanding track record getting work done in her district.

Norma Santiago is an El Dorado County Supervisor from District 5, including South Lake Tahoe. Norma has been involved in economic development in El Dorado County and was recently praised by Sen. Feinstein for her efforts. As a lone Democratic voice on the Board, she has been able to influence positive and progressive action throughout El Dorado County.

Volunteers

Jo Souvignier is an outstanding activist who lives in a red area of Sacramento. Over the years she has worked extremely hard to change the hearts and minds of her neighbors and voters across the County. Her work helped to give us a Democrat representing the Fifth Assembly District.

Patricia “Patty” Hughes is a Stanislaus County political activist who got her start working on President Jimmy Carter’s campaign. Patty is the founder of the Democratic Women’s Club of Stanislaus County, the California Catholic Democrats and the Democratic Women’s Inspire Awards.
